engine overview
This is a pretty small engine, really...
engine left side
Here we see the power-steering pump and various other things. These engines (and transmissions!) are mostly mechanical, which will really help in the conversion.
alternator and turbo
On the right side, we can see the alternator down low, and the turbo in the center of the photo.
AC compressor
The AC compressor lives down low on the left side of the engine.

Ew. Dirty.
DSCN4369
Apparently the screw-top thing at bottom center is the tachometer signal amplifier...
DSCN4370
Brake booster/master will not be used (for sale!). Under the black plastic cover at bottom is one single relay. I'm not sure what it does yet. I also don't know what the vacuum thingy at bottom right is.
DSCN4371
Apparently there's a transmission control box on top of the valve cover. It's got several vacuum lines connected to it, and it's got levers that wear out inside it. :)The infamous ALDA (altitude compensator) is at the bottom center. It's the rectangle with the little cylinder in the center, sitting just to the right of the origin of the five metal fuel lines.

One of the many things to fix... the mounts on the air cleaner are shot. It flops around all over the place.
DSCN4374
What's this junction box do? Looks like several high-current wires join up here.
DSCN4375
The AC receiver/dryer is shoved down through the fender like that in order to give it better cooling airflow
DSCN4376
This box full of springs is the resistors for the HVAC blower.

Wastegate is on the left, with the single vacuum line coming out. The EGR is the one with the corrugated pipe.
One of these items needs to be tuned up for more power, and the other needs a BB in its vacuum line to disable it... :)

Auto-tranny filler neck. Also visible to the right, on the intake manifold, is a pressure sender, I think.
DSCN4381
Nice aftermarket alloys, with good tread left on the tires. These will be for sale. :)

That star will be going on a new grille on the Cruiser, unless I opt for a Unimog-sized ultra-huge star instead. "Turbo Diesel" I'm not too sure about yet.

Bandeirante used OM-324/ OM-314/ OM-364, but from 1995 all models are equipped with Toyota 14B engines. Investigate what tranny the pre-95 models used!
