this 4-speed is from an FJ40, we figure. it will be donating its output shaft to our cause. :)
rear (output end) of the donor tranny.
the benz engine, now right-side up. the head is back on, as are the camshaft and oil filter housing (the big silver can). The white filter on the left is a fuel filter (one of two—the pre-filter is dangling down on a fuel line), and that thing with the five holes covered with duct tape is the injector pump.
that's one big-assed starter motor. Hopefully the bath it took in the parts washer didn't kill it!
